…Service above self

The Imo state gorvenment of Senator Hope Uzodinma and Prof Placid Njoku has taken a bold and utterly selfless step by making Imo state the first state in Nigeria to cancel the huge gratuities and pension paid to former Gorvernors , Deputy Gorvernors, Speakers and Deputy Speakers.
In an executive bill sponsored by the state gorvernment and passed into law by the Imo state House of Assembly which was assented to by the state Gorvernor recently, the Imo state government under the leadership of Uzodinma, clearly showed good reason for it’s decision to channel resources of the state to the service of the common man rather than using these resources to maintain a privileged few.
What makes the act even more extraordinary is that this bill was sponsored and assented to by an executive Gorvernor and his deputy who are key beneficiaries of the previous legislation which would have had them pocket tens of millions annually after leaving office.
This is the difference we get when we elect God fearing men into public office. Furthermore, it is a clear indication of service above self when one is entrusted with authority.
