Rwandan National Carrier,RwandAir today inaugurated its cargo flight from Mwanza to Brussels to be transporting fish to Europe,as a respond to demand in movement of goods. The agency chief executive officer Yvonne Makolo confirmed this. Makolo said “these are parts of the restructuring that has been ongoing and among other things see the airline continue to generate revenue in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the post COVID-19. The move to commence cargo flights by the agency is to increase the chances of putting Rwandan products on the global shelves especially products such as tea, coffee and other horticulture consumables.” Furthermore, our source gathered that the move could serve local exporters and domestic producers access to international markets which will maintain exports, and the balance of trade. The timing for the launch could be said to be strategic with most airlines having halted all their operations, there is also likely to be a demand in cargo facilities as countries seek to replenish their stocks of medicine, medical supplies and testing kits for the novel Coronavirus among other items.
