The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev.Anthony J.V. Obinna has advice Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma and other Igbo political leaders at various level to protect their people from threats posed by the herdsmen from Northern part of Nigeria.
Archbishop Obinna, in a statement on Monday, charge Imo governor and other leaders, “protect our people, defend our homes and lands”
Obinna further stated” that in the midst of the fear, panic and anxiety caused by the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, it is unfortunate, sad and very distressing that our people are being subjected to vicious threats and acts of invasion, massacre and sack from herdsmen from the Northern part of Nigeria. “
“The hatred against Igbo in Nigeria had already been demonstrated through Nigeria’s brutal war against Igbos who had decided to live on their own as Biafrans away from a Nigeria that has rejected them with so many merciless killings in cold blood”.
” Not satisfied with defeating us in an uneven war, there is this threat to wipe out Igbo’s and take over our God-given homes and lands.”
He went on to say, that having spoken to Governor Hope Uzodinma over these threats,he has publicly charge him to recognize his primary duty as the Chief Security Officer of Imo people, to protect their lives, homes and lands. The statement reads in parts, “Your Excellency, your voice should be loud and clear on this life and death issue, while urging the people to rise to rise up in prayer to God, in vigilance and in legitimate self-defence.
