Hushpuppi: no major difference between him and a number of our today’s politicians and pastors

Truth is; there is hardly a major difference between Hushpuppi and a number of our today’s politicians and pastors. Most are fraudsters, operating at different levels and with different styles.

If Hushpuppi had been lucky with his latest windfall, he would most probably have come into Nigeria by 2023 to either buy up one elective seat or buy one for a stooge.

Hushpuppi would have ended up being one of Nigeria’s biggest power brokers and godfathers, in few days to come. If he didn’t want to occupy an elective position personally, he would have retired from the life of fraud by buying up contracts from Federal and State governments in order to legitimize his stolen monies. Of course, a fraudster is a fraudster, he wouldn’t have done a lot of the contracts he would have won.

Until we redirect attention from academic credentials of potential political office holders to insisting on clear evidences on their work and business histories, we will continue to reward fraudsters, drug peddlers, smugglers and criminals of different rankings, occupying sensitive leadership positions, consequently running the affairs of our country like they are running a criminal cartel, where the most insincere, the most deadly and the most unconscionable survive and the best behaved and most honourable are treated like dregs of the earth and seen as the mugus of the nation.

Ask yourself; what jobs had my governor, Senator, House of Representatives member and even House of Assembly member done before going into politics? Where did have their shops and what genuine businesses did they do. Where did they get the millions and billions they threw around to buy your attention and our cheap support for their political ambition?

We must come to terms with the unfortunate reality that we are a nation run by people of questionable backgrounds. We are an unfortunate nation. It is because of the shady backgrounds of most of those we classify as our most successful, that most of our youths have seen fraud and other crimes as a normal way of life. Those who fail to get into it are mugus.
