COVID-19: Gov.Udom shuts livestock markets in AKS

Governor, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has ordered the closure of all livestock markets in the state.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman COVID-19 Management Committee, Emmanuel Ekuwem, on Tuesday, did not give reasons for the action but warned that defaulters would be prosecuted.

The statement directed all livestock owners to dispose of their old stock adding that no new ones would be allowed into the state.

“I have been directed by the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, to announce the immediate shutdown of all livestock market in the state for the rest of May 2020.

“By this announcement, no new consignment of livestock – goats, cows, and rams, will be allowed into the state until further notice. Livestock sellers are advised to sell off their stock and proceed to shut down.

“Security agencies have been directed to monitor and ensure full compliance.  Defaulters will be prosecuted,” the statement read in part.
