
ExxonMobil donated 10 old vehicles in dilapidated condition to Akwa Ibom State Government, for contact tracing of suspected COVID-19 patients in the state, the donations was delivered on Friday. However,in a swift reaction, the government said it appreciates the company’s effort in coming to the aid of the people and government of Akwa Ibom at a time like this,but regret to state, that the very purpose for which the vehicles were to be used,that the conditions of the vehicles defeats that purpose. According to the Akwa Ibom State, Information Commissioner, Charles Udoh, “after careful evaluation of the vehicles,we realized that the vehicles are considered too old and not in good enough operational conditions to withstand the rigour of contact tracing which they were meant to serve,” the statement read in part he said. “And for this purpose the government resolved to reject the vehicles,while thanking the corporate body for all the support.”
