The Supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has given Biafrans and IPOB members a new order ahead of the Biafra Day celebration. Kanu, who is on exile, asked all Biafrans and all that seek freedom, to banish their differences and take a final stand against oppression ahead of the 2020 Biafra Day celebration slated for May 30.
Kanu who is also the Director of Radio Biafra gave this order on Tuesday on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, where he maintained that “there’s no other way to do this than to seek the rapid dissolution of Nigeria.”
The IPOB leader tweeted: “As we remember of our fallen heroes, the GREATEST defense against a genocide, I ask all #Biafrans & all that seek FREEDOM, to banish their differences & take a FINAL stand against OPPRESSION. There’s no other way to do this than to seek the rapid dissolution of Nigeria.”
In a related development, IPOB has released guidelines for the May 30 “Biafra Day”, declaring a three-day global prayer ahead of May 30, a day set aside in commemoration of those who died in the struggle for the actualisation of the Republic of Biafra.
The statement said the usual sit-at-home will not be observed as her people stayed many days at home during the coronavirus lockdown. This is even as Nnamdi Kanu has said there will be no movement in Biafraland that day.
In a statement, IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, revealed that the Biafra day celebration would start and end with prayers, with candle processions at every state, Local Government Area, ward and church across the region. The statement urged Biafrans both home and in the diaspora to observe the celebration.
The statement read in part, “We, the global and indefatigable family of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the prophet and liberator of our time, wish to announce to the people of Biafra, friends of Biafra, enemies of Biafra, lovers of freedom, as well as the world that Biafrans will remember and commemorate our fallen heroes and heroines who made the supreme sacrifice for us to live , on 30th of May 2020.
“After much consideration and deliberations IPOB, high command decided to urge Biafrans both home and in the diaspora, observe this year’s remembrance and celebration of our brothers and sisters who were killed and starved to death during the genocidal war on the peaceful land of Biafra by Nigeria government and her foreign allies including Britain, Egypt, USSR and Czechs Republic between 1967 and 1970, through fasting and prayers. The programme for this year’s event, will last for three days from 27th to 30th of May, 2020.
“This year’s episode and the event will start with prayers and end with prayers. There will also be candle processions at every state, LGA, ward and church in our land. It is very imperative that our people observe these great days for those who paid the ultimate price and sacrificed their youthful lives for our own lives to be today. This great event will start on 27th and end on 30th of May.
“There won’t be any sit- at -home or indoors because our people stayed much days at home during the coronavirus lockdown. IPOB wouldn’t like to bother people with another lockdown in form of sit-at-home.
